For a professional cricketer, preparation for the Indian Premier League doesn’t begin when the tournament does. At Punjab Kings, the work continues through the year, with fitness, recovery and individual development forming an important part of the off-season programme.

The franchise recently concluded a four-day intensive fitness camp in Bengaluru, conducted in collaboration with Stance Health from September 14 to 17. The camp brought together Punjab Kings players including Shashank Singh, Priyansh Arya, Pyla Avinash and Vishal Nishad, as the players stepped into a focused period of physical conditioning ahead of the upcoming domestic season and the next IPL campaign.

The Bengaluru camp followed a skill-based camp held at the team’s base in New Chandigarh from August 11 to 15. With more specialised camps planned across the country in the months ahead, Punjab Kings continue to maintain a structured, year-round preparation cycle.

The focus in Bengaluru went beyond cricket-specific skills. The players underwent customised strength and conditioning programmes, targeted mobility drills, structured nutrition plans and advanced recovery sessions. The objective was to help each player understand and improve their individual physical benchmarks, manage workloads effectively and stay ahead of injury concerns.

With the focus firmly on building a strong physical base, Shashank Singh underlined the importance of putting in the work long before the IPL begins.
“This is the first fitness camp that has taken place this year. Everyone feels that the IPL is a three-month tournament, but it is not, it is a proper 12-month commitment for players competing at this level. If you want to compete with the best in one of the world’s top leagues, you have to work that hard. This camp is focused entirely on fitness, diet, and training, and we are making sure to tick all the boxes well ahead of the season.”

Priyansh Arya also highlighted the importance of scientific training and recovery, particularly as players look to build towards the demands of a long cricketing calendar.
“As the season approaches, our focus is to get as much quality training as possible and achieve peak physical condition. The facilities here, especially the dedicated physio support and strength and conditioning programmes, are tailored specifically for our individual needs. In modern cricket, fast and efficient recovery is what makes the real difference over a long season.”

With the domestic season set to begin, the players will now return to their respective state teams before regrouping for the next phase of Punjab Kings’ preparations.
