Punjab Kings produced a disciplined bowling performance and a composed chase to register a five-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a 14-over-a-side Indian Premier League fixture at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.

Put in to bowl after losing the toss, Punjab Kings quickly took control. Marco Jansen (2/10) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2/11) exploited the conditions to stifle Bengaluru’s batting unit, reducing the hosts to 51 for 7 by the 11th over. Arshdeep Singh also chipped in with two early wickets as RCB limped to 95 for 9 despite a fighting unbeaten 50 from Tim David.

In response, Punjab’s top order suffered a few early setbacks, but Nehal Wadhera (33* off 19) played a calm, calculated knock to anchor the chase. He found a finisher’s partner in Marcus Stoinis, who closed the match with a six, taking Punjab to 98 for 5 in 12.1 overs.

The win was set up by the bowlers, but Punjab’s batters ensured there were no late stumbles in the chase.
