After some much awaited suspense, it was finally revealed that team Punjab will be rechristened as ‘Punjab Kings’ starting IPL 2021, relinquishing their old name Kings XI Punjab. The team will also be sporting a new logo for the forthcoming VIVO Indian Premier League season.

Speaking on the name change, co-owner of the franchise Mohit Burman revealed that the idea was aimed to give the team a fresh look ahead of the 2021 IPL auctions. "We put it to research, both with fans and with closed groups and have finally arrived at the new name," Burman said in an interview.

"The idea behind the new name is to add a fresh look and a fresh feel to the franchise. As with any product/service, everything has its own life cycle and we believe given the changing ethos and the audience taste we thought it was apt for the brand to go through a complete new refresh."

Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon also opined on the name change, stating that the management believes the new name will help forge a greater sense of unity amongst the franchise and their fans.

“Punjab Kings is a more evolved brand name, and we understand it was the right time for us to move focus on the core brand itself. The change in brand identity is not about changing our brand ethos but celebrating our one-ness as we stand in unity like a family.”

Punjab Kings will be seen sporting their new logos on Wednesday in Chennai at the 2021 IPL player auctions, where the team management will look to fill up the remaining nine slots in their team roster.
