Punjab Kings fell to Mumbai Indians in Dharamshala, suffering their fifth consecutive defeat despite notable performances from Prabhsimran Singh, Azmatullah Omarzai and debutant Vishnu Vinod.
After being put in to bat, PBKS were given another strong start by Prabhsimran Singh, who continued his impressive season with his fifth half-century of IPL 2026. The opener played with fluency and confidence at the top of the order, helping Punjab build a solid platform in the powerplay.
However, after the steady start, PBKS lost a cluster of wickets through the middle overs, allowing Mumbai Indians to claw their way back into the contest. With the innings needing fresh momentum, Azmatullah Omarzai took charge with an enterprising counterattack, shifting the pressure back onto the visitors.
Punjab’s gamble of handing Vishnu Vinod a debut then paid immediate dividends. The wicketkeeper-batter played a fearless cameo at the death, combining effectively with Omarzai as the duo propelled PBKS to the 200-run mark with a late flourish.
Defending their total, Punjab Kings fought hard and produced several strong moments in the field. Omarzai stood out once again with the ball, delivering a disciplined spell and picking up key wickets to keep PBKS in the game. Despite their efforts, Mumbai Indians managed to stay ahead in the chase and closed out the contest in the latter stages.
While the result extended PBKS’ losing streak, the continued consistency of Prabhsimran, Omarzai’s impactful all-round display and Vishnu Vinod’s promising debut offered positives heading into the next fixture.
