Punjab Kings endured a narrow defeat in a gripping low-scoring contest against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, going down with just a ball to spare despite a spirited all-round effort.

Asked to bat first, PBKS found themselves in early trouble at 47/5 as the Titans’ bowlers made full use of the conditions. Just when the innings seemed to be slipping away, Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis stitched together a remarkable counterattack. The duo added 79 runs off just 44 deliveries, shifting the momentum back in Punjab’s favour.

Shedge stood tall with a composed and classy knock, bringing up his maiden TATA IPL fifty under pressure. Stoinis complemented him with a typically aggressive innings, taking on the bowlers and ensuring the scoring rate never dipped. A handy late contribution from Marco Jansen further pushed PBKS to a competitive total of 163/9.

Defending the total, Punjab Kings made the perfect start. Arshdeep Singh struck early, removing Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill in the second over to put the hosts on the back foot. The bowlers continued to chip away with timely breakthroughs, never allowing the Titans to run away with the chase.
PBKS kept things tight through the middle overs and built consistent pressure, ensuring the contest went right down to the wire. With 11 needed off the final over, the game hung in the balance, but Gujarat Titans held their nerve to seal the win with one ball remaining.

While the result didn’t go their way, Punjab Kings will take plenty of positives from a resilient performance that showcased both fight and character.

Despite back-to-back losses, PBKS continue to sit at the top of the league table with 13 points. They will look to bounce back quickly when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on May 6.
