Best remembered for sending off Aamer Sohail in the 1996 World Cup, Venkatesh Prasad has joined Kings XI Punjab as a Bowling Coach ready to impart what he displayed in that quarter-final match 22 years ago.

With Brad Hodge as Head Coach and Virender Sehwag as the Director – Cricket Operations and Team Mentor already on board, Kings XI Punjab have injected some more international experience with the signing.

Prasad brings with him a wealth of experience of performing in a similar capacity for India, and even for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings in the VIVO Indian Premier League.

An important member of the Indian National Team in his heyday, Prasad was instrumental with the new ball, with a stellar ability to move the cherry both ways, both in ODIs and the longer, more gruelling format of the game. With young quicks like Ankit Rajpoot, Mohit Sharma, Barinder Sran, and even Ben Dwarshuis from Australia, KXIP would be pegging their hopes on Prasad to bring out the best from the team’s pace battery.

Usually a calm, unruffle character, Prasad has oodles of passion and aggression within him, and that’s something we are hoping would rub off on the KXIP squad as well. Sohail can testify to Prasad’s aggressive streak, and fellow IPL teams this season be warned of a similar send off.

With Venkatesh along with Hodge and Sehwag, KXIP boasts of a premium coaching staff, and though his name is Prasad, teams should have no hopes of freebies when they come visiting our temples at Mohali and Indore.
