In cricket, team coherence lies at the heart of every discussion. When one player isn’t having the best of days, the other ten step up, lifting each other to deliver a collective performance. Yet, on a night when our batters couldn't quite get going on a surface that, in hindsight, wasn’t the most favourable, our bowlers delivered a performance we can all be proud of.
Last season against Kolkata Knight Riders, our Shers successfully completed the highest run chase in IPL history, and last night, against the same opponents, we did the talking with the ball. We successfully defended the lowest total in IPL history, thanks to a bowling unit spearheaded by our wizard Yuzvendra Chahal.

In a riveting encounter against KKR, we clinched a memorable victory, with Chahal emerging as the architect of our success. Our seasoned Sher delivered a masterclass in leg-spin bowling, steering us to a well-deserved win and reaffirming his status as one of the IPL's premier bowlers. The match, played under the dazzling lights and roaring crowd, witnessed us setting a below-par total of 111 after a shaky batting display. However, the real drama unfolded when KKR took to the crease, chasing a target that seemed within reach given their formidable batting lineup.
Enter Yuzvendra Chahal.

From his very first over, it was evident that Chahal was on a mission. Exploiting the conditions perfectly, he weaved a web of spin that left the opposition batters baffled. His control over flight, pace, and turn was nothing short of spectacular. Chahal’s spell was characterised by sharp googlies, deceptive flippers, and well-disguised leg breaks that consistently challenged the batter’s technique and temperament.
Chahal’s pivotal moment came when he dismissed KKR’s in-form batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who had been anchoring the innings with confidence. The delivery—a perfectly pitched leg-spinner—spun sharply to deceive Raghuvanshi, which turned into a comfortable catch at point for Xavier Bartlett.
This wicket triggered a collapse, with Chahal claiming key scalps in quick succession. His figures of 4 for 28 in four overs not only stifled the run flow but also dismantled KKR’s middle order, leaving them reeling and unable to recover.
While Chahal’s contribution with the ball was the highlight, his strategic field placements and on-field presence alongside Shreyas Iyer showcased his cricketing acumen. Always in the captain’s ear, suggesting changes that worked, Chahal proved he’s much more than just a strike bowler.

The rest of our bowling unit complemented Chahal’s brilliance, maintaining pressure from the other end, but it was undeniable that the leg-spinner held the key to our victory. His ability to perform under pressure, especially in crucial games, has always been a hallmark of his career, and this match was no exception.
Post-match, our skipper, Iyer, attributed the team’s success to meticulous preparation and understanding the opposition batting lineup’s tendencies. "When we saw Yuzi come in and turn the ball, our hopes and expectations were higher & I wanted the field to be attacking and right in front of their face so that they make mistakes," he said, reflecting on Yuzi’s match-winning spell.

For us, this win not only boosts our position in the IPL standings - jumping to 4th with 8 points - but also reinforces our credentials as serious contenders this season. As for Chahal, his performance against Kolkata Knight Riders will be remembered as a masterclass in spin bowling, a testament to his enduring prowess in the shortest format of the game.
