In a bizarre turn of events, Chennai Super Kings’ Imran Tahir has been declared as the winner of the Chennai Half Marathon 2019 when he accidently stumbled onto the race track and outran his competitors, while he was celebrating the prize wicket of the opposition team.

“Tahir just started running and the next thing we know is that he’s already reached Marina Beach!” said a CSK backroom staff member.

The leg spinner reportedly wandered into the running area of the Chennai half-marathon and ended up winning that race with a quarter of a kilometre's lead over the rest of the runners.

“You practice for years for races like this; and in the end a superfast South African on a month-long tour to India ends up ruining your day,” said a disgruntled runner. “This is not why I went on a three-month keto diet.”

Tahir, who recently announced he will retire from One Day Internationals after the World Cup, sees this marathon win as an opportunity for the future.

“I used to run after picking up wickets because I’ve been skipping cardio day at the gym lately,” he explained. “This thing is easier than picking up wickets in Bengaluru.”
