With the evening matches expected to go on till about midnight, fans prepared themselves for the long haul but were left flabbergasted as neither team used their full quota of 20 overs, finishing the match almost an hour earlier than scheduled.

“I guess I’ll spend some time my family,” said one fan. “I’ve heard they are decent people.” Another fan was seen heading to the hospital holding his chest and reports later emerged that the 20-something-year-old man had five energy drinks to help him stay awake till midnight.

While most fans expressed their displeasure, a small minority were happy with the early finish. “This is just perfect,” said one spectator heading out of the MA Chidambaram Stadium after the game. “I can now go home and actually celebrate my wedding anniversary on the day it falls with my wife, who thinks I’m still at the office, working on an assignment.”

On being asked in the post-match presser if finishing the contest in just 17.1+CSK's inning was the plan all along, skipper MS Dhoni said, ”Well, of course,” before he too dashed for a dinner with his family.
