After an agonising wait of 11 years, Punjab Kings have secured a coveted spot in the TATA IPL Playoffs, marking a triumphant return since our memorable 2014 campaign. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the team's resilience, strategic planning, and consistent performance throughout the season. Let's delve into our Shers’ inspiring journey in IPL 2025 and revisit the milestones that shaped their path to success.

A Strong Start: Setting the Tone

We kicked off our 2025 IPL campaign with a renewed sense of purpose. Under the astute leadership of our captain, Shreyas Iyer, and the strategic brilliance of Ricky Ponting and the coaching staff, we focused on building a balanced squad that blended experienced stalwarts with young, dynamic talent. Our opening matches against the Gujarat Titans & Lucknow Super Giants set the tone, with consecutive victories against formidable opponents, showcasing both aggressive batting and disciplined bowling.

Shreyas Iyer led from the front with crucial runs. At the same time, the likes of Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Shashank Singh proved just why our backroom staff had their money on them right from the word go with some extraordinary batting performances.

Arshdeep Singh began the tournament from where he left off last season, with Yuzvendra Chahal joining him in some brilliant attacking bowling from our star bowling duo.

Key Factors that contributed to our success

Dominant Batting Performances: Our batting line-up emerged as one of the most formidable this season. The consistent form of our top-order batters, with key players like Iyer, Prabhsimran, and Arya regularly scoring big, provided the team with solid starts. Their aggressive approach in the powerplay overs often put the opposition on the back foot.

With a combined total of 1,369 runs scored among our top 3, strong starts have been our forte for the majority of this season.

Middle-Order Stability: Unlike previous seasons, our middle order held firm under pressure. Crucial partnerships during challenging run chases and the ability to accelerate in the death overs were game-changers. Shashank Singh and Nehal Wadhera have stolen the show on multiple occasions, while Inglis and Stoinis have also chipped in with some important and match-winning runs.

Bowling Brilliance: The bowling unit, led by experienced pacer Arshdeep Singh and supported by the trickery of Yuzvendra Chahal, played a crucial role in defending totals and restricting opponents. Their knack for picking up timely wickets and maintaining economical spells was vital.

Nail-Biting Finishes: We showcased remarkable grit in close encounters. Winning tight matches, especially in the final overs, not only boosted our confidence but also proved our ability to handle pressure situations.
Matches like the one against KKR, where we defended the lowest total in the tournament’s history, and against RCB, where our middle order was tested chasing a small total of 96, our Shers maintained their cool and helped the team get over the line.

Strategic Leadership: Sarpanch Saab’s tactical acumen, combined with well-thought-out strategies from the coaching team, ensured that we adapted well to different match conditions and opponents.

Team Cohesion: The unity and camaraderie among players fostered a positive team environment, translating into cohesive on-field performances.

Fitness and Fielding: Improved fitness standards enhanced our fielding capabilities, often saving crucial runs and affecting key run-outs. The PBKS players made life difficult for the opposition batters to get the scoreboard ticking, thanks to our standout fielding efforts.

Fan Support: And lastly, our Sher Squad, who have been the best 12th man they could have been this season. The unwavering support from our loyal fan base has proven to be an extra boost, especially during home games.

The Road Ahead

As we gear up for the Playoffs, the belief within the camp is stronger than ever. With our current form, strategic depth, and the lessons learned from past campaigns, we stand a formidable chance to finish in the top 2 and give ourselves every chance to go and end up winning the whole thing.

Our Shers’ journey to the IPL Playoffs after 11 long years is a story of perseverance, evolution, and unyielding spirit. Our fans, who have stood by us through thick and thin, now have every reason to dream big and cheer louder as we aim to turn this remarkable season into a historic triumph.
