Punjab Kings’ captain Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday became just the second Indian cricketer to accumulate 50 fifty-plus scores in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

The swashbuckling left-handed batter achieved the incredible feat during Punjab Kings’ encounter against Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2023 season at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Assam.

Dhawan scored an unbeaten 86 off just 56 balls to help the Kings post a huge total of 197/4 in their 20 overs. The 37-year-old’s scintillating knock was laced with nine fours and three sixes.

As soon as Dhawan registered his first IPL fifty as PBKS skipper, the southpaw became just the second Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli to record 50 fifty-plus scores in the IPL. Apart from Dhawan and Kohli, Australia’s David Warner is the only overseas cricketer to feature in the elite list.

Interestingly, Warner has the most fifty-plus scores in the IPL. The flamboyant Australian cricketer leads the list with 56 half-centuries and four hundreds.

Dhawan and Kohli share the second spot with 50 fifty-plus scores. While the PBKS captain has smashed 48 fifties and two centuries in the T20 tournament, Kohli has recorded 45 half-centuries and five tons so far.

With four points from two matches, the Trevor Bayliss-coached PBKS are currently placed second in the IPL 2023 standings.

Buoyant Punjab Kings outfit will aim to continue their winning streak when they next face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, April 9.
