Punjab Kings’ star pacer Arshdeep Singh will return to play an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the franchise’s home ground - Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium - after almost four years.

The 24-year-old left-arm fast bowler had played his last IPL match in Mohali against the Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 3, 2019.

Arshdeep had conceded 24 runs in his two overs as KKR rode on Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 65 off 49 balls and Chris Lynn’s 22-ball 46 to chase down 184 in 18 overs.

Since then, the youngster has continued his meteoric rise as he has emerged as an integral member of the Indian cricket team’s T20I set-up.

Arshdeep’s rise in the IPL

After playing three IPL matches in 2019, Arshdeep was retained by the Punjab Kings’ management ahead of the IPL 2020 auction.

The pacer repaid the franchise’s faith as he scalped nine wickets in eight matches during the 2020 edition of the IPL.

A year later, the Madhya Pradesh-born cricketer continued his impressive run as he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker for the franchise, only behind Mohammed Shami. Arshdeep bagged 18 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 19 and an economy of 8.27.

Following his brilliant showing in IPL 2021, he was once again retained by the PBKS franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.

Having formed a lethal bowling partnership with Kagiso Rabada, the left-arm pacer ended the IPL 2022 campaign with 10 wickets in 14 games at an economy of 7.70.

Making his dream debut for India

After being lauded for his IPL performances, Arshdeep finally made his T20 International debut against England in Southampton on July 7, 2022.

The fast bowler made a scintillating T20I debut as he picked up two wickets for 18 runs to help India secure a 50-run win.

Arshdeep’s wicket-taking abilities continued to impress the selectors as he was later named in India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

The pacer continued to trouble the batters at the world stage as he emerged as India’s leading wicket-taker at the marquee ICC tournament. He picked up 10 wickets in six matches at an average of 15.60 and an economy of 7.80.

In his short T20I career, the talented fast bowler has already bagged 41 T20I wickets in just 26 matches.

In November 2022, Arshdeep made his One-Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand at Christchurch.

Arshdeep will once again spearhead the Punjab Kings’ bowling attack in the 2023 edition of the IPL.

The ace speedster is expected to make his much-awaited return to the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali to once again face KKR. This time, though, Arshdeep will prove to be a much more potent prospect.
