5 reasons Axar Patel could make the difference for Punjab this season

Here is why the young all-rounder, who almost won KXIP the title in the past, could be the team's trump card this time around.

Axar Patel has been one of the most consistent performers for Kings XI Punjab over the past few seasons. The lanky all-rounder gives the team a nice balance with his left arm spin and increases the length of the tail with his ability to swing the willow. Listed below are some reasons the Gujarat da munda might turn things around for KXIP this season

  1. Mr Utility

Often, in the shorter format of the game, utility players are in high demand because of the all-round value they bring to a team. Patel has been Kings XI Punjab’s Mr Utility over the years, using his left arm spin to good effect and reducing the pressure on the team’s top order while batting. He gives a good balance to the team going into the league’s 11th edition.

  1. The age factor

The young Patel is only 23 and still has years of cricket left in him. Kings XI will be looking for a long innings with the all-rounder and retaining him for this season is the first step towards that.

  1. Taking the field

Axar Patel is fast developing into an excellent fielder who can add 10-15 runs for his team only by virtue of his quick reflexes on the field. In a format like T20, where one dropped catch or missed run out could make the difference, having Patel on the green gives the captain more confidence while setting the field.

  1. Consistent performer

Kings XI have gone through many highs and lows in VIVO Indian Premier League and Axar Patel has been through them for a lot of those. He has also performed consistently with both the ball and the bat. He was a key part of the 2014 KXIP team which went through the finals of the event and impressed one and all with his ability. The Kings will be hoping he continues his form and continues the good work for them.

  1. Fresh legs

Axar Patel will come into the Indian Premier League without being fatigued by too much cricket prior to the event. This will mean his fitness levels will be higher and chances of injury lower. A fresh pair of legs is an asset for any team.
